I can’t write. I can’t write about whats going on in the world.

I can’t think. I can’t think about the lives that have been lost.

I can’t cry. I’ve cried so many tears before, the tears of ancestors come from me to the floor

I can’t sing. The songs of freedom, of justice, of peace, when there is no peace in me

There is no peace for me if there isn’t peace for those who look like me.

No peace for those who came before me. Now there will be no peace for those who seek to turn a blind eye to the monstrosity.

The death, the MURDER, the unjust systems, the unfair punishments, the unequal pay, and education systems.

I can’t breathe, while the system has its knee on our necks

Has its rope to our throats

I won’t rest

Until all are equal and all wrongs undone

Until reparations are given and we can unite as one

Until I know that my children and my children’s children can write and think and cry and sing

Let freedom ring

and this time it will be true
