It is my intention to fast…for three days. Yes, fast, as in, cease to eat food.
I am on a very reliable pattern of eating every two hours. Whether it’s a full meal or a large snack. I am ALWAYS eating. Even in high school, I would eat a jelly sandwich DURING track practice. Taking on this adventure will be no easy task for me. In fact, I’m mortified, nervous, almost to the point of a perpetual stank face in anticipation. When I go more than 4 hours without eating I am the epitome of a HANGRY person. I become irritable, cranky, a bit of a baby, and I just STOP talking because it takes too much energy.
Why, then, am I doing this you ask? If I tell you my honest answer, you might think I’m crazy, but here goes. Last week while I was meditating my stomach growled (completely normal) only this time instead of drifting off into a thought of “I’m hungry,” the thought, “Let’s fast,” came to me. I responded, “really? when?”, I received the answer, “next week.” And I said ok. Simple as that.
Since then I’ve been doing research on the benefits, tips on how to better transition into it, and ways to make sure I am doing this water fast in the healthiest and safest way possible. There are some health benefits to fasting, but my focus is on the spiritual experience.
It’s my first time doing this so I will pay very close attention to my body. If I feel I need to stop sooner I will but I’ll do my best to last the entire period. I feel a tremendous shift on the rise for me, so I am using these three days to “dig deep” (if you haven’t read my last blog, go do it) into myself and gain greater mental clarity. I’ll be meditating for most of the day, resting, doing yoga, and writing.
I’ll update my blog on how I’m faring and what my fasting experience is teaching me. Thank you for joining me on this journey. If you have any tips, comment below. I’d love to hear them!!
